USA and INDIA are the two largest democracies in the world. So it is claimed.
“But are they?”
Democracy is the rule by the people. True, people elect their representatives. But are they truly
Or of political parties?
Of the rich?
Can we recall those whom we have elected?
Do we or can we participate in decision making?
Do we have any control on our own lives?
Today we have the rule of MONEY. There is no Swaraj. Swaraj is possible only in small societies. Swaraj is total-economic, political and social-control over self. Today we are slaves of a global market. We have to, first free ourselves from it's grip. We have to produce more and more of the commodities we consume daily ourselves. This was the slogan of self reliance raised by Gandhiji. We have to strengthen the local economy by producing, trading and consuming locally.
Gadhiji started with cloth - khadi. We started with soaps and toiletries, water management, waste management and agriculture. Swaraj can built only on the foundation of self-reliance and even sufficiency in all essential items of daily consumption, such as food, toiletries and many other industrial goods.
The Parishad Production Center is committed, though small it may be, to help our villages and towns to become increasingly self reliant and self-sufficient in more and more items of consumption, to hold back the money they spend within the area not allowing the big sharks carrying it away.
Buying local products is an act of patriotism and of resistance to the attacks of global market forces
We take inspiration from our Father of the nation who said: "I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any. I refuse to live in other people’s houses as an interloper, a beggar or a slave"
Samata™ is a self- reliant marketing venture initiated by the Parishad Production Centre, Kerala Sastra Sahithya Parishad. Through this initiative we plan to market a variety of standard, quality and healthy products for daily use produced by us without the help, support or intervention of any corporate agency or company.
We take inspiration from our Father of the nation who said: “ I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any. I refuse to live in other people’s houses as an interloper, a beggar or a slave “ Ever since the inception of neoliberal policies and so called globalization, our nation is facing the threat of becoming beggars and slaves of the invisible corporate economy which has ruthlessly spread its tentacles into every nook and corner of our day to day life and living.
Through this simple yet firm step, we hope to resist the entry of multinational corporations into our homes through item like soaps, detergents , tooth pastes and similar cleaning and toiletry products. In that sense Samata is not just a marketing program, it is a peoples resistance movement. We hope to include more and more consumables into our product spectrum and also to collaborate with large number of similar self reliant production and marketing groups all over the country.
Gandhiji transformed simple common salt into a powerful weapon against our colonial masters during the salt sathyagraha one of the most successful non violent people’s mobilizations against the British rule . We consider that the ordinary bathing soap that we use in our everyday life ( and also the detergent that we use for washing clothes) has the potential to become a powerful weapon to fight the multinational corporations who have entered into every nook and corner of our daily life. The samata soap is a high quality low priced product that PPC proudly present to the people of India.
Other PPC products include high quality hand made detergents, toiletries and so on. Apart from maintaining strict quality standards we also ensure that the production processes provide maximum job opportunities to our educated youth. Thus by supporting Samata™ venture, you are participating in a peoples alternative development program that provides greater job opportunities on the one hand and resist the infiltration of multinational corporations and other neoliberal agents into our village economy with the sole intention of exploiting our human and natural resources.
Personal hygiene is being promoted by World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the important determinants of better health and well-being. Handwashing, Bathing, Laundering, Toilet hygiene etc. are the crucial components of personal hygiene and it is promoted world over as a development tool. For multi-national corporates, personal hygiene products are an important avenue of profit-making. Crores of rupees are spent on selling these products to our households and building brand names.
The Samata Family Care kit is an ensemble of personal hygiene products to serve the entire family. The kit provides personal care products essential to every household as a single pack, at affordable rates. All products carry the stamp of Samata’s credibility and trustworthiness. Each product is made with utmost care and maintaining strict standards.
What makes the Samata Family Care kit unique, apart from its quality, is the philosophy that drives Samata products. Samata is a non-profit collective and the labour force behind Samata products are rural women, who are on their path to financial and social self-reliance through collective action. We are committed to good practices and ethical procedures, where service and sustainability, are the primary goals, not soaring profits.
