Building A Democratic and Self-reliant India
USA and INDIA are the two largest democracies in the world. So it is claimed.
“But are they?”
Democracy is the rule by the people. True, people elect their representatives. But are they truly
Or of political parties?
Of the rich?
Can we recall those whom we have elected?
Do we or can we participate in decision making?
Do we have any control on our own lives?
Today we have the rule of MONEY. There is no Swaraj. Swaraj is possible only in small societies. Swaraj is total-economic, political and social-control over self. Today we are slaves of a global market. We have to, first free ourselves from it's grip. We have to produce more and more of the commodities we consume daily ourselves. This was the slogan of self reliance raised by Gandhiji. We have to strengthen the local economy by producing, trading and consuming locally.
Gadhiji started with cloth - khadi. We started with soaps and toiletries, water management, waste management and agriculture. Swaraj can built only on the foundation of self-reliance and even sufficiency in all essential items of daily consumption, such as food, toiletries and many other industrial goods.
The Parishad Production Center is committed, though small it may be, to help our villages and towns to become increasingly self reliant and self-sufficient in more and more items of consumption, to hold back the money they spend within the area not allowing the big sharks carrying it away.
Buying local products is an act of patriotism and of resistance to the attacks of global market forces
